Caring for your windows and doors

A little regular care keeps your M.C.G aluminium windows and doors operating smoothly and looking their best for decades. Our frames, hardware and seals are built for tough Australian conditions, but coastal salt air, dust and grime still build up over time. The simple routine below is all most homes need.

Routine cleaning

Every few months (and more often within a few kilometres of the coast) wash the frames, glass and sills with warm water and a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and wipe dry with a soft cloth. Avoid scourers, solvents and harsh chemicals, which can damage the powdercoat or anodised finish.

• Wash powdercoated and anodised frames with warm soapy water, then rinse and dry.
• Clear weep holes and sill tracks of dirt, leaves and insects so water drains freely.
• Vacuum or brush out sliding tracks before they collect grit that wears rollers.
• Wipe down rubber seals and weatherstrips; never paint or oil them.
• Lightly lubricate locks, hinges and rollers once a year with a dry silicone spray.
• Check that locks, stays and handles operate freely and adjust rollers if a sliding panel drags.

What to avoid

Steer clear of abrasive pads, cream cleansers, sugar-soap and any cleaner containing solvents or chlorine. High-pressure washers can force water past seals and strip lubricants, so a bucket, sponge and hose are all you need. If a finish ever looks dull or chalky, talk to us before reaching for anything stronger.
