Replacing your windows with M.C.G takes four steps: a free consultation and quote, a check measure, approximately five weeks of manufacturing at our Croydon South factory, and installation by our own team, including new architraves. Here is what happens at each step, how long it takes, and what you need to do along the way.
We have been making aluminium windows and doors in Melbourne for more than 25 years, and replacement work for homes across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula is a large part of what we do. Knowing what to expect makes the whole job easier, and we want you to feel confident at every step, so here is how it works.

The process at a glance
| Step | What happens | How long |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Free consultation and quote | You submit an enquiry and our team contacts you directly. A consultant visits, takes sizes and talks through your options. You get a written quote. | A single visit, with your quote usually within 2 to 3 business days |
| 2. Check measure | Once you go ahead, a service technician measures every opening precisely. | A single visit |
| 3. Made to order | Your windows are made at our Croydon South factory to the exact measurements. | Approximately 5 weeks from the check measure |
| 4. Installation | Our team removes the old windows and installs the new ones, including new architraves if required. | From 1 day up to 2 weeks, depending on the number of windows, access and project requirements |
From your first visit to installation, six to eight weeks is typical. We confirm the timing for your job in your quote.
Step 1: Free consultation and quote
It starts when you submit an enquiry. Our team will contact you directly to arrange a time for a consultant to visit your home. The consultant looks at the windows you want to replace, takes sizes and talks you through the options: window styles and configurations, glass, including double glazing, and powdercoat colours. If you are thinking about replacing a sliding door or back door at the same time, this is the time to mention it, so the frames and colours match throughout.
After the visit we send you a clear, no-obligation written quote, generally within 2 to 3 business days. There is no cost for the consultation and no pressure to go ahead.
To get the most out of the visit, it helps to know which windows you want replaced, what is wrong with them now (draughts, noise, sticking or rattling frames), and whether you have a colour in mind. You can browse the options on our colour chart beforehand.

Step 2: Check measure
Once you accept the quote, a service technician visits to measure every opening precisely. It is a separate visit for a reason. The consultation gives you a price before you commit, and the check measure gives our factory the exact measurements it needs to make each window to fit.
Every window we make is built to suit its opening, so you get a precise fit and a clean finish, rather than a standard size packed out to fit the hole.
It is also worth thinking about whether your job needs a building permit or planning approval. Replacing a window with one the same size usually does not need a building permit, but requirements vary from property to property, and checking what applies to your home is the homeowner’s responsibility. If you are changing the size of an opening, or your home is under a heritage overlay, please contact your local council for more information.
Step 3: Made to order in Croydon South
Your windows are made at our factory at 85 Merrindale Drive, Croydon South, to your exact measurements, using our NATA-tested aluminium systems. Most window replacement companies buy their windows in from a supplier. We make ours, so we control the quality and the timing from start to finish.
Manufacturing takes approximately 5 weeks from the check measure. We confirm the timing in your quote.
Every M.C.G window carries a ratified WERS energy rating for its measured performance. That matters, because it shows how the exact window you choose performs for heating and cooling.
Step 4: Installation
Our own team removes your old windows and any rubbish from the removal, installs the new ones and fits new architraves and external trims if required, leaving a tidy finish.* Most of the time the new windows are installed from the inside, and sometimes from the outside, depending on access. The same business that makes your windows installs them, so there is no handover between a supplier and a separate installer, and one team is responsible for the result.
Installation takes from 1 day up to 2 weeks, depending on how many windows are being replaced, access and any particular project requirements. It is not disruptive: most homes can be lived in while the work is done.
On the day, it helps to clear furniture, blinds and curtains away from the windows being replaced, and to make sure our team can get to each window from outside as well as inside.
* Painting of the reveals and new architraves is not included and is arranged by the homeowner.
How long does window replacement take overall?
From your first visit to installation, six to eight weeks is typical. Most of that time is the approximately five weeks of manufacturing. The consultation, quote and check measure happen around it, and installation itself is the shortest part. We confirm the timing for your job in your quote.
Why you can feel confident with M.C.G
- One team from start to finish. The same business takes care of your consultation and quote, manufactures your windows and installs them, including new architraves.
- A ratified WERS rating. Every M.C.G window carries one.
- Independently tested. Our windows are tested through NATA-accredited facilities.
- Australian owned, with more than 25 years of experience, and a member of the Australian Glass and Window Association (AGWA).
- A 7-year warranty, with a 12-month warranty on moving parts.
After installation
Powdercoated aluminium does not need repainting. A wash with warm water and a mild detergent every few months, clear tracks and a light spray of dry silicone on locks and rollers once a year will keep your windows working smoothly. Our maintenance guide covers the full routine.
Frequently asked questions
How long does window replacement take?
Our windows are made to order in approximately 5 weeks from the check measure. Installation takes from 1 day up to 2 weeks, depending on the number of windows, access and project requirements. From your first visit to installation, six to eight weeks is typical. We confirm the timing in your quote.
What happens when I submit an enquiry?
When you submit an enquiry, our team will contact you directly to arrange a time for a consultant to visit your home. After the visit, we send you a written quote, generally within 2 to 3 business days.
Why are there two visits before my windows are made?
The first visit, the consultation, gives you a written quote before you commit. The second, the check measure, happens once you go ahead, and gives our factory the precise measurements for every opening, so each window is made to fit.
Can I stay in my home while my windows are replaced?
Yes. Window replacement is not disruptive, and most homes can be lived in while the work is done.
Do you install architraves and trims?
Yes. Our team installs new architraves and external trims if required, and removes the old windows and any rubbish. We do not paint the reveals or the new architraves, so the homeowner needs to arrange that.
Do I need a permit to replace windows in Victoria?
Replacing a window with one the same size usually does not need a building permit. Requirements vary from property to property, and checking what applies to your home is the homeowner’s responsibility. Please contact your local council for more information.
Do you replace the whole window?
Yes. We make a complete new window to suit your opening, remove the old unit and install the new one. Each window is made to measure, so you get a precise fit and a clean finish instead of patching over worn or failing frames.
